* New Mexico methodology note

Modernize's current 2026 national state table omits New Mexico. We use the published U.S. national baseline — $1,047 installed, $897 material and $149 labor — for New Mexico so the calculator can offer all 50 states without inventing a state-specific number.

Why location changes a window estimate

Labor markets

Installer wages, contractor demand and access costs vary by region, which changes the labor component of a replacement project.

Climate and glass

Hot, cold and coastal climates can change the glass package, coatings or impact-resistance requirements homeowners choose.

Codes and permits

Local building codes, permitting and inspection requirements can add product or installation scope.

Project conditions

Exact opening size, full-frame repairs, trim, upper-story access and hidden damage can matter more than the state average itself.

Use your state benchmark

Turn the state average into a project estimate

The calculator now supports the U.S. average plus all 50 states. Choose your location, then adjust window count, style, frame material, glass package and installation method.

Window replacement cost by state FAQs

Which states have the highest average window replacement cost in this dataset?

Alaska, California, Hawaii, Massachusetts and New Jersey are the highest published state averages in Modernize's August 2026 national table at about $1,128.72 per installed window.

Why does window replacement cost change by state?

Local labor markets, permitting and code requirements, climate-related glass needs, product availability and installation complexity can all change the installed cost from one state to another.

Are these state prices contractor quotes?

No. They are planning benchmarks from published homeowner-project data. Exact window size, material, style, glass, access, repairs and installer pricing can move an actual quote materially.

Why is New Mexico marked as a national baseline?

Modernize's current 2026 national state table does not publish a New Mexico row. WindowCostAdvisor therefore uses the published U.S. national average as a neutral fallback instead of inventing a state-specific number.
